Swatches: M.A.C. Eyeshadow Suite

Shallow v. Deep

Sweet Liason

Swatches
(first 2: Sweet Liason, Next 2: Shallow v. Deep)

This is the first time i've tried the eyeshadow suites and ive noticed that the first color (the bigger one) is usually shimmery an quite sheer wile the second color is much darker, which can be used as the second color or crease color.

I dont think this is locally available, actually I only see this at CCO ( The Cosmetics Company Store). They cost $11.25 plus tax. I think it's a great deal for people who dont really plan on using a whole lot of eye makeup. The 2 shades can be used when you dont feel like making a big fuss in the morning and want to look a little more polished than the usual.

Review: M.A.C. Pro Longwear Lipcolour

M.A.C. Pro Longwear Lipcolour
in Durashell (soft pink with gold pearl - Frost)

Special Sleeve (available only
while supply lasts) Its so cute! hehe

What it says:
A longwearing lipcolor that applies in two quick steps. Stroke on the special formulated colour base, flip the stick and apply the clear gloss. Soft and comfortable on...kiss, drink and eat. Smudge, run, transfer and feather proof. Pro longwear lipcolour is best removed with Cleanse off Oil.

Swatches:

on my arm

on my lips (now I dont normally wear frosted lipstuff on
my lips let alone on my entire lips haha for demonstration purposes only lol)

Why you should buy it:
- True to what it claims, it is long wearing. I thought clear gloss was what it made it stick, but the colour base actually adheres to your lips.
- If you hate having to reapply lipstick this is for you.
- Best used for events when you wont have the time to check if you still have lipstick on

What you should consider:
- Its makes your lips dry
- Limited shades, the cream ones are much better as a lipstick then the frost ones.
- the color base applies and feels like a regular lipglass at first but starts to feel drying after a few seconds.
- I dont know if its just my lips or the frosted formula but it tends to crack. And no it doesnt feel soft and comfortable. It feels dry and cracked

I would really like to try the cream ones instead of the frost since I dont normally like frosted lipstick. Ill probably use this to top off a lipstick but wont wear it alone on my lips. Durashell looks a lot like the lipglass Nymphette. Such a pretty color but id probably just stick to the lipglass

How to: Eyebrows

In my opinion, the hardest part in doing makeup is the eyebrows. Ive encountered different kinds of eyebrows: over plucked, shaved in half, bushy, brows with patchy no hair areas (my very own hah), etc. We read it all the time, that when we do our brows, we should follow the natural shape. That works sometimes when your own brows has a nice shape. But you sometimes have to go in and change the shape of the brows either by plucking/shaving or filling them in.

The main points of the eyebrows are: the starting point, the arch and the end point. This one you see in all those magazine and books where you measure by aligning a straight object (eg. a brush) along the side of your nose to the corners of your eye (end point), side of your nose along your eye (arch), side of the bridge of your nose towards your forehead (Starting point). Im sure its quite hard to imagine so here's an image from my portfolio of pretty Miel. You can use these lines as guideline when shaping your brows or when your drawing them on.

1: Starting point, 2: Arch and 3: End Point

As for filling in your brows, there are a lot of products in the market now. There are brow powders, pencils and even creams. Ive tried pencils and powders and I currently use a powder. I like that it gives you more control and isn't too overpowering unlike some of the pencils ive tried. The only decent brow pencil ive liked so far is M.A.C's brow pencil in lingering because you can slowly build the color and it doesnt look too fake.

I like to start filling in my brows in the middle and work my way to the end point where it should be the darkest. My own brows dont have an arch from the several times ive had people shave my eyebrows when they do my makeup (ugh. never ever again). I make sure that the arch on both sides are the same before I move on to the starting point. The starting point should be squar-ish in shape and a tad bit lighter then the middle part and end part of the eyebrow. I sometimes struggle with this because my eyebrows really need to be drawn on. So what I do is I draw the entire eyebrow shape and go back to the starting point and lighten it a bit with a qtip. Another good way to lighten it is by using M.A.C's brow set.

M.A.C. Browset in Girlboy, Beguile and Mink

Swatches (Girl boy, Beguile and Mink) w/ flash

Swatches (Girl boy, Beguile and Mink) w/o flash

My eyebrows: quickly filled it in with an eyebrow powder

Left: Beguile; Right: Girl Boy
I dont normally apply it over my entire eyebrow but I
did in the picture
to give you a better idea of what it would look like
.

My favorite is Girl boy which looks orange brown on the swatch but when applied looks like light brown. Beguile looks more like Golden brown but darker. I first purchased Mink because it was dark and thought I needed to swipe it all over my brows haha.

I really love the browsets from M.A.C. As nicely shaped eyebrows help frame the face, sometimes lighter eyebrows helps to make the face looks softer. And the browsets do that. If youre afriad of bleaching your eyebrows or want to see what you look like with lighter eyebrows, trying the browset is a good start!

A few more tips ive picked up that might be useful:
- An angular face (eg. square shaped) should have more of a rounded shaped eyebrows, while a person with a round face should make her eyebrows a bit more angular or a bit more arched.
- If youre a brunette your eyebrow color should be at lease 1-2 shades lighter. If you have
red or blonde hair, your eyebrows should be at least 1-2 shades darker

Hope this helps! The best way to get it right is to practice, practice, practice. I am no expert at this, its still a hit and miss for me sometimes and I even still struggle with my own, given that my eyebrow hair are so scarce hahaha.

Would love to hear from anyone who does her brows differently! hehe Ive yet to
try the cream one from MUFE as it is out of stock at the moment but ill let you guys know as soon as I get my hands on it. Oh and btw, if youre in the Philippines the Girl boy browset has been out of stock since March, hopefully they'll have it by next month. =)

Artistic Makeup 2nd Class + M.A.C. Workshop

Perfect brows, everyone's frustration haha. Last Saturday, we were supposed to do the prime/ no makeup look for class. However, we all got stuck with doing the eyebrows and the class ended at that since we also had to attend the M.A.C. workshop at 2 pm.

My model and Carl's model :)

The Makeup Artists at M.A.C. Glorrietta

During the workshop we were taught how to transform day makeup to night and
to smokey. We also got a rundown on some of the most essential items that M.A.C. carries
.

Hey Classmates! haha :)

yumm!

We all know that the eyebrows frame the face. As with choosing the right lipstick shade, the eyebrows can make or break a look. A good shaping of the eyebrow can change the way you look. I personally had eyebrows that barely had an arch, so I now shape them using a brow pencil or eyeshadow (I use m.ac. charcol brown) and draw in the arch.

Doing eyebrows on another person is a different story. I was lucky to have had a model who had good eyebrows (and good skin to boot!!), so it was supposed to be easy but I had to re do it 2-3 times before our instructor, RB Chanco, thought it was good enough.

No makeup yet

With foundation. Didnt need to use concealer
since she didnt have any blemishes :)

With the eyebrows after soo many tries hehe

Aside from the frustrating eyebrow lesson, we also learned how to custom mix foundation when you only have the 3 most important shades in your kit (light, medium and dark) I was lucky to have had my Cinema Secrets Ultimate Foundation Palette in kit #3 which covers from light to dark.

Our first evaluation will be on Saturday and we need to come in at 8 and be done with prepping, foundation, concealer powder setting and eyebrow application by 8:30. Will need all the luck for that haha! Then we will continue on with the prime look :) As always, excited for Saturday hehe. Now, ill go practice shaping eyebrows again haha i'll leave you all with a video of Petrilude from youtube on how to shape eyebrows.

Carbon

An entire mini post, dedicated to my favorite M.A.C. eyeshadow. Carbon. haha. Yeah I know, its black. Seems kinda boring. Not a lot of people would add this to their list of things to buy at M.A.C. because well, its just black. Get any ol black eyeshadow thats cheaper.

Before finally getting Carbon I probably bought 4 different kinds ( the cheaper alternatives ofcrouse) and they always seemed washed out, not completely black but grayish. Or they were too intense. I like Carbon because the intensity is buildable. You can put some on the outer corner and blend with whatever color youre using and it wont come out as black-black. It blends wonderfully with other colors. And when you need it to be black, it will be black. Am I making any sense? haha Its also quite easy to blend unlike the other matte eyeshadows.

Anyway, so yes. IMO Carbon is a must have! :D

Whats your favorite eyeshadow?
