The Coastal Scents Under Cover HD Foundation Review from Fafinette. Just thought id share this to those who havent seen it :)

Okay, so there are yellow based shades. Hard to tell from the Product Photo that Coastal Scents realeased. Or maybe im just color blind haha. I really hate choosing shades based off photos on the internet. Colors arent true and may vary depending on your computers specs.

Anway, just a bit odd. I thought she said she's a color in between nc37 and 40. And nc37 was a little light for her. But the Coastal Scents Foundation shes using looks much much much lighter than nc37 when she swatched them. hmmm..

It does look good. Ive been on the hunt for a liquid foundation. Ive been wanting to try the one from MAC, but studio sculpt broke me out. Too afraid to try another one from MAC cause the formula might be causing the breakout. This might be a good one to try...maybe..not 100% convinced that its a fantastic product haha. but we'll see :) cant wait to see more reviews on it.

Hmm, looks interesting. A lot of cosmetic lines have been coming up with their own HD line. Coastal Scents has 14 shades, though there arent ay reviews yet since this is a fairly new product.

Its something id want to try, since it is a lot cheaper than most HD foundations. Though im pretty happy with RCMA (for matte finish) or Cinema Secrets (for a dewy finish). I see that this has the ingredient Titanium Dioxide listed! Im quite allergic to the word haha and I always look for it in ingredients list. Most if not all foundations have this ingredient though. But if it contains a large amount of it, this is when you get that Geisha look on photographs haha. I wonder how much this one has.

Looks promising, but you sometimes get what you pay for (its relatively quite cheap compared to other HD foundations) I hope it doesnt dissapoint. Please let me know if any of you have tried it. :)

And the winner is..

I think I may have found my HG foundation. On my quest to find theee perfect one I considered a few factors. Price (haha, cheapo), and ofcourse quality. With the hype of the new HD formulas, I found 2 brands that already had the HD creds way before the popular lines came out with theirs: RCMA and Cinema Secrets.

Cinema Secrets
I am quite obsessive with color picking because I just really hate poorly matched foundations. I was glad they had the palettes so I could try a bunch of colors or mix them to get a match. Of course color picking on line is terrible but I went with the one with the most colors from the 300 series which was made for people with yellow undertones. The last two colors from that kit made me doubt it though cause they seemed too dark but I ended up using the 2nd and 3 darkest colors from that kit the most.


What I like:

- I think that kit3 is very versatile. You can go from light or medium light to dark as long as the undertones match.
-Easy to blend. Texture is butter like! haha its a soft creme that goes on smoothly
-Very Pigmented. You wouldnt believe how little I have to use. Its mind blowing haha. I use about half a pea to about a pea size every time.
-So far, no break out related to its use haha despite being oil based.


What I dont like:

- Gives you more of a dewy finish which can be great if your skin isnt as funky as mine. But it tends to look a bit shiny on me after a few hours -though this can still be fixed with blotting paper and setting powder.


I also got the color corrector/concealer palette in kit#2. Okay now this stuff I have no complaints whatsoever. It works like a dream! Covers bluish tones under the eyes, red areas, blemishes, everything! And you need so little! It actually works better if you use just a tiny bit. I started with half a pea size and it looked like I had an-an (fungi) on my face because I could see the spots I was trying to conceal. But after getting a hang of it hayyy pure love! haha That is one thing though, if youre used to using regular makeup it might take some time before getting used to this one. Its very pigmented so I had no idea how much I needed to use when I first tried it.

At about 20 plus dollars this comes out cheaper even if you get both the foundation and concealer palette as opposed to say a m.a.c. foundation and concealer or MUFE's HD foundation and concealer. It will definately last longer since you only need to use a small amount.

RCMA!
RCMA boasts of its 50% pigment compared to other brands which have about 18%? i think. So you can just imagine how different this is from the regular ones you're used to. Color picking again was a pain since they have a very extensive line with all the undertones imagineable. I think they probably have hmm close to 40 or 50 im not even sure but they have a lot! So again, I just started choosing among the colors under the yellowish undertone. I tried out a few samples I think I got about 5 before I decided to just get two colors so I can mix them to match. I got Shinto 2 and 3. This is a good guide about RCMA colors. (click ME). Oh and a litle tip when choosing a color, the product looks quite dark in the pot due to it being very pigmented so I think its safer to choose one thats a shade darker.


What I like:

- Pea to half a pea sized amount every use! I still cant get over it haha. The sample product is said to be good for about 2 to 3 faces. Ive had mine for about a month already and its only half empty. (EDIT: lasted me 2 months!) Meaning I still have enough for another month from that tiny little jar ( its about the size of a bare mineral foundation starter thingy- about a 5 or 10 gram jar id say but its not even filled up all the way.)
- This is what I mainly use and Ive NEVER had an RCMA related break out even though its oil based.
- I love the finish. Its more of a matte
-Almost undectable when properly blended. It just looks like you have great skin!
- Looks super good in photographs. hehe
- No fuss packaging. It will totally deceive you! haha (id rather have something that looks plain but works)


What I dont like:
- The texture is not something I dont like but others may find it anoying that you have to smash it up and warm it up before using ( I actually enjoy doing that haha). Its a hard creme.
-Color matching is too confusing haha too many colors (but thats actually a good thing)
- I really have no complaints about RCMA


Oh and they have a colorless setting powder that comes in like a salt shaker container. its about 3oz? for $8. This thing is unbelievable. I would say that this is comparable to MUFE's HD ivisible powder and MAC's invisible setting powder, only way way cheaper! It doesnt clump so you can go crazy with it and not worry you'll end up looking like a clown, it doesnt change your foundations color. I also use this to set my concealer or after I color correct before applying my foundation so that colors wont mix and with regular powder im sure you can imagine how horrible that would end up looking.


Anyway, that is it! RCMA wins :)


EDIT: Even in Manila's hot and humid weather, RCMA works! I tried it on my friends and they all love it haha.

Black Eye

Why isnt my concealer working?! 0.0

Under eye circles are probably one of the most common problems. When I first started doodling with makeup, I was always looking for a concealer that would cover the slightly blueish tone under my eyes. That was more than 5 years ago. They are no longer SLIGHTLY bluish.

I blame it on the case presentations, the quizzes and exams in college and the thousands of facts and diseases I had to cram into my head for the Nursing board exam. Hello freshness! haha

Concealers should be applied to the area youre trying to conceal in thin layers. If its not enough continue layering thinly until you get the right coverage. However, it doesnt work all the time. If you keep layering eventually the concealer will deposit in to the creases or lines if you have any and it will look cakey.

If you find that nothing works to cover the evidence of too much partying or you just want to pretend that you didnt stay up all night cramming for an exam then what you need are Neutralizers are Color Correctors.

Neutralizers/Color Correctors work by cancelling out a discoloration such as under eye circles, redness, brown discolorations due to hyperpigmentation and basically any kind of abnormal coloring. These are the crazy colored concealers you see - the green, yellow, purple, orange/pink, etc.

For it to work, you have to have some understanding of colors and what color blocks what. Here is a color wheel:


Opposite of Blue is Orange or Yellow Orange. You can use a neutralizer that has a tint of orange or even salmon pink to neutralize bluish undertones such as those under the eyes.

Opposite Red is Green. You can use a neutralizer that doesnt necessarily have to be green ( I see a lot of those) but has some tint of green to it to neutralize redness caused by acne or spider veins

Also a neutralizer with a hint of pink to it can help covering up brown spots.

When correcting color, remember that you DONT use a pure green, orange or pink color to Neutralize. You need to look for a product with a skin tone color but has the correct color undertone (green, red, etc) to correct problem areas. The most common corrector I see is the one from Physicians Formula and the corrector/primers from Smashbox. The ones that they have to correct redness are Green and though I havent tried them I think they would end up leaving a slightly green cast if you dont mix it or cover it with foundation. I just think its too weird to put green makup on your face.

Another tip I found: After neutralizing or color correcting lightly dust it with powder (prefereably something finely milled like a transulucent powder, mufe hd powder or something like it) and then apply foundation. This prevents the mixing of the two.


I have been trying Cinema Secretss Ultimate Foundation and Concealers/Corrector. I havent gotten the hang of mixing the foundations to get a mtach but I love the correctors. They get rid of the bluish tone under my eyes as well as any hyperpigmentation or redness I have from broken capillaries, veins or pimple marks. But I dont think I can use them as is since I will look like I have an-an HAHAHA. So I have to use foundation (cream or powder) over it to hide the areas I concealed. And it works so well, i am in love with it!

Ever gone out with friends and thought "wow, im hot!" with your cute little dress, you check yourself out in the mirror one last time and think your makeup is impeccable. Come the next day when you get a copy of the pictures that were taken from the previous night. And you shriek! I looked like an Espasol.

Ive never had that happen to me, either because I tend to go slightly dark with my foundation or barely used foundation at all. When I see pictures of random people with "white faces" I think, oh theres one again, another girl who's obsessed with being white. I thought that it was simply because they chose a shade lighter than their actual skin tone (which is usually the case anyway) but did you know, that a common and widely used ingredient in most Foundations actually causes you too look like a clown in pictures? NOT COOL, not cool at all.

THE CULPRIT: TITANIUM DIOXIDE

What it is:
It is a naturally occuring mineral and one of the top 50 most produced chemical in the world. It has a variety of uses and can be found in a variety of products from food, paint and cosmetics.
Its usually found in cosmetics with sunscreen, in most foundations and Mineral Makeup. Its used as a white pigment, an opacifier and sunscreen.


Foundations with a high amount of titanium dioxide gives you the espasol look. The flash from the camera bounces off it and tadah!, one million clown pictures from your most recent night out.
This is the reason why mineral makeup or foundations with a high amount of titanium dioxide are avoided in shoots. So if you know you're going to be taking a lot of pictures next time you're going out, you might want to skip your foundation with SPF.

Most makeup dont actually state how much Titanium Dioxide is in their product. So just avoid foundations with SPF (save it for regular days - since it wont actually change the color of your face IN PERSON only in pictures). Most drugstore brands contain a higher amount of T. Dioxide (eg. Maybelline, Revlon, Loreal) and mineral makeup.

Another issue with it is that, some researchers say that it can cause lung fibrosis and is a carcinogenic (what else isnt these days?) But, I think right now its listed as a safe chemical. But to be on the safe side, try avoiding stuff that contains T. Dioxide, quit putting on makeup, only eat organic grass and live under a rock. haha

LEMMING:

Ive been searching for m HG foundation for quite some time now. I got a Studio Sculpt a few months ago and though I like the formula, the color is just off :/ I have to mix it with a darker fdtn to get the color somewhat matched. But its still a little too light for me. And I cant find the darn receipt so I cant have it exchanged! hayy

I wanted to get Chanel's Pro Lumiere Foundation. Which I promised to get for myself a few motnhs ago haha but but $54! So instead I think im getting a corrector palette and a foundation palette from Cinema Secrets and a couple of other stuff for about the same price as the Pro Lumiere (maybe i'll get it as a birthday gift? *hinthint* haha). I hate shopping for makeup online though. "Color picking" is hard! I dont know where to get Cinema Secrets here and I want to see the actual palettes *sighs* My friend told me: "I would get 2 to be sure" ahaha. I would too actually, but I am trying and I mean really trying hard to just get the stuff I need. This is where the daily revenue of $375,000 would come in handy.

I wanted to get a palette because well I think it would be easier to find a match rather than getting one full sized product. And I like getting a tan soo my color just changes all the time.

Okay, to show you how much ive been oggling at the palettes. here is a color comparison thingy I made yesterday haha

is Kit3 from Cinema Secrets which contains fdtns form the 300 series. It has yellow undertones which is best suited for Asians. I think this would be the safest choice only because of the undertone. But, I think the colors are a little too light/yellowish for me. And the last color is way too dark.

is Kit6 which contains fdtns from the 500 series. I think this one has pink undertones. So though the colors looks like a good range for me. I might end up looking ashy or gray (think LOVI POE haha I kid, I kid) Pink cancels out brown so I dont know how that would affect my coloring.

is Kit8 which is a combination of colors from the different series. I asked someone who bought it and she said it runs a little darker tha the pictures. She thinks this palette would suit NC 40 up. hmm Im around NC 35- 40 so thats the color range im looking for. But this one looks a little dark

Sooo to summarize. #1 might be too light, #3 might be too dark, #2 will give me a Lovi Poe finish. HAHA. You didnt think makeup could be so complicated huh? Anyway, I just have to choose one and probably just mix the colors to get a match so its either #1 or #3 I think? What do you think? haha
