Finals/Portfolio: Icon

Hello! Im posting about another look I did for my finals/portfolio. On one of our classes, we were asked to suggest a them for the avant garde and a beauty icon. Our professor, RB Chanco, announced which one she chose on the day of our finals. For the Icon, we were tasked to do a look inspired by Twiggy

This was simpler than the other looks. The base and prepping is the same with the Prime/ No Makeup Look. The only difference is the eye makeup. Twiggy was really known for the exagerrated and drawn lower lashes. I used MAC Gesso for the lid and Carbon for the crease. Applied NYX JUmbo pencil in Milk for the lower lashine. I tried putting on falsies on the lower lashline but didnt like it too much so I just drew the lower lashes.

Artistic Makeup Class: Smokey Eyes

On Sunday, we had our very last class! Boohoo! I'm so gona miss going to LCI and our OJT's and playing Makeup Artist haha. I do hope that I get a chance to pursue this as a career * crosses fingers*

Anyhoos, our last lesson was the ever so famous smokey eyes. The first time ive heard about smokey eyes was when I was in highschool. I dont think it has ever died down since its a very simple makeup trick that can turn you into complete fabulosity! I usually do a smokey look whenever Im going out and dont have a lot of time.


Case in point:

Last July, one of my girls celebrated her birthday and I was tasked to do the
Makeup. I did a subtle smokey look on them and myself



After doing Phil's Leopard and my brothers Terminator makeup, I didnt
have much time to do anything with myself for Halloween so I did a subtle smokey look =)

So anyway, though the smokey look is not entirely new to me, the reason I went to Makeup School is to learn more and learn about different techniques. So I come to class with a clean slate, meaning I completely forget about what I already know and pay attention to what we are taught and combine what I like from what I learn in class and how I usually do things =)


My model, Iyz from my previous post had to leave cause she had work in a few hours. So it was a good thing one of our friends was also there so I asked if I could use her as a model. But, surprise! surprise! Our instructor RB, had something in mind...

RB asked us the Models and the MUA's to draw numbers and we were paired up with models that our other classmates brought with them. This was so we get a feel of what its like to do Makeup on a complete stranger and asked the models to be brutally frank with us and tell us if we have heavy hands or what not. So for the smokey eyes lesson, I got Sam =)

Sam told me I was very gentle! Mission Accomplished! haha yey! =)

RB demonstrated how to do the smokey eyes by doing it on me haha too bad I forgot to take pcictures of it, darn it! So i had to do it on Sam by looking at my own eyes and trying to remember how RB did it on me haha

As most of you know, smokey eyes is just simple. Apply the darkest shade (black eyeshadow) on the lid and make sure that you blend it upwards. Another way to do it is to choose 3 shades.

- Apply the lightest (of the 3 dark shades you chose) on the crease and blend upwards.
- Apply the 2nd lightest (of the 3 shades) and blend on the hollows or just below the crease.
- Apply the darkest shade which is black, on the lid and blend.
- Apply highlighter on the brow bone, blend to get rid of harsh lines.
- Dont forget to put eyeliner, making sure that the line on your waterline is smudged/smoked
- Curl your lashes apply mascara or apply falsies for more drama! :))

and voila, instant hotness! =)

Today is the first day of our Finals/ Portfolio shoot, im probably doing makeup now as you are reading this haha. Wish me luck! I hope all goes well!

Artistic Makeup Class: Male Makeup

Last Sunday, we were asked to bring a Male model for class. I brought along my friend from highschool, Espi! Not so many guys are willing to come in and be a model for a Makeup Class in fear of being turned into some overderly done girly versions of themselves. HAHA. So I was glad that my friend was game and agreed to come with me to class.

Male Makeup is pretty quick and simple. Apply a lesser amount of foundation as you would when your model is female and use a shade that is at least one shade darker, this ensures that the makeup is subtle and avoids the overly made look. You may contour lightly and apply a wash of blush on the cheeks especially if the model has a fair complexion to give him more color. Apply colorless lip balm on the lips and groom the eyebrows, and youre done! =)


My friend said that I have light hands so yay for me! He actually thought it looks very natural and left LCi with makeup on! haha i told him to tell his friends that he came from a shoot just incase they do notice that he has makeup on haha

Artistic Makeup #4: 4 Color theme/Semi Smokey

To make up for the classes we missed because of some electrical issues at the building where LCI is located, we had back to back classes last weekend. For Saturday, we learned how to do the 3 color theme and how to turn it into 4 color or semi smokey. I always try to ask people who are interested in makeup to be my model for class, so we both benefit from it hehe. So for Saturday, I asked Fatima from http://kikayfetz.blogspot.com if she could come.

Fetz and I went to the same college, both graduated from nursing, are both Licensed Nurses and Makeup Junkies! haha. I was so glad that she was able to come and see what its like to be in Makeup School. =) As always, before our class starts we prep our models and do the makeup we learned from the previous class.

Fetz has really great skin, apart from some redness and a few dry patches her skin is amazing! No need for concealer and just a small amount of foundation to neutralize the redness.

when we turned the prime look to corrective eye makeup/4 color theme.

On Sunday, we were asked to prep our models and do the Semi Smokey or 4 color theme. I used a quad from Revlon that i've been neglecting and it looked really pretty on my model, Iyz! The colors on the quad are more on the wine/plum shade.

Iyz also has great skin and didnt need a whole lot of coverage just a small amount of foundation to even out the skin tone. I had a bit of trouble with making the eyebrows look even. I had to choose one eyebrow to follow and thank goodness I got it to look more evened out since I didnt really want to shave a whole lot of her eyebrows haha.

I'll try to post about the latter part of Sundays class tomorrow which is Male Makeup and Smokey Look. But officially, sunday was our last class! Boo! :/ I'm going to miss going to school and playing Makeup Artist at our stations and OJT's.

On Thursday, will be attending "Tribute to THE OSCARS" (link is from last years' event. And more pictures from last years event HERE) to support our wonderful and beautiful Makeup Guru, RB Chanco. I cant wait to see how the pictures turned out, since I also helped out a bit with one of the models makeup for one of the shoots. Artistic Makep Class #3: Contouring & Highlighting

I was so busy with ojt's that I almost forgot to confirm a model to come with me to class. Finally someone agreed abut stopped replying after a few minutes 0.0 Panic! Didn't know what to do when I got to class, so I did what I do best, put makeup on myself!! haha I got through the whole shebang when our wonderful and super awesome instructor, RB Chanco, arrived. Of course they told me I needed to find a model HAHA. Good thing there were some students who were having their ojt at LCI. So I grabbed one and asked if I could use her as a model for class.

So while everyone had an hour or more preparing their models, I had to re do the makeup I did on myself (or at least something like it) in about 15 minutes so I could catch up with the new lesson which was highlighting and contouring.

Interestingly enough, her face shape is Diamond which is kinda rare? So it was a challenge to contour to make the edges a bit more softer =)

Basically:

- Controuring is applying a darker shade on to the areas where you want it to receed (big forehead, hello! haha, you can also use contouring to soften the edges such as in the jawline but you can also use contouring to make the edges or hollows of the face more pronounced such as the hollows of the cheeks right below the cheek bones).

- Highlighting is applying a lighter shade on areas to accentuate them (nose bridge, cheekbones, this helps make the area to look like its sticking out more).

-There are different techniques on where and how to contour but BLENDING IS KEY. Once you get the blending part, youre good to go. The lines cant be too harsh that you can actually see it and it cant be too washed out cause it would be pointless. haha.

You cant really see the contour on my "after" picture with Jubee much because of the yellow lights, but i also didnt make the contour too pronounced because I wanted her to enjoy the rest of her day with the makeup hehe. I know how makeup can quickly make you feel different or somewhat feel better when you wake up to a sucky morning or when youre lacking sleep and need to run errands the whole day. That is what I love about makeup! =)

LCI Artistic Makeup 1 - OJT

Forgot to include this in my previous post. LCI's Artistic Makeup Course's curriculum includes a certain number of hours alloted for apprenticeships and OJT's. Which is great, because you get to apply all the things you learn from class and get to experience what it's like to be a working Makeup Artist.

Ive been on 2 apprenticeships the past few weeks. But last week, it was my first time to go to an OJT. I volunteered to go to the shoot, thinking it was an apprenticeship only to find out later that we were going to have to do the Makeup! It was for a Billboard ad? I think? Im not very sure.

It was kind of nerve wrecking to be asked to do the makeup for a shoot. We were first asked to just do the base. And then our instructor RB, asked us to do the whole Prime look. I was very nervous about the eyebrows but im glad it turned out well and my makeup didn't need any correction! wee! It was so much fun! I cant wait to go to another OJT. There was one yesterday but I didnt go cause my face is swollen! haha and I had to go to my friends gig for support and because I did her makeup too, but more on that later. Happy Valentines! :)

Artistic Makeup 3rd Class: Prime/No Makeup Look

Hey everyone! Valentines is just around the corner! I see everyone doing valentines looks and I unfortunately cant do one, because my face is freaking swelled up like a chipmunk! How very timely eh? hahaha Went to the dentist a few days ago and he told me I needed a root canal (yeek!) I didnt want my face to swell so I had it done and surprise surprise I look like Manny Pacquiao LOL ugh I hate it.


Im posting about last weeks class since classes this week are cancelled AGAIN. We were supposed to have 3 classes this week to make way for our OJT for U.P's Live Aids 2010: CIRCUSMARYOSEP! on the 19th, 20th and the 21st. But LCI cancelled our classes every night for each of the day (I wish they just cancelled the whole week's scheduled classes and told us about it earlier) because of some aircon maintenance issue. blahh.


But anyway, last week we had a class and our very first evaluation! We needed to do the prepping, the base and the eyebrows. We had 2 weeks to practice since the week before our class, LCI cancelled the scheduled class. I said I would, but I procrastinated and then forgot haha. I wanted a challenge, so I brought in my friend Betty La Fea to model....

Kidding! haha This is my friend Michie, she dressed up as Betty La Fea for Halloween. She doesnt have crazy bushy eyebrows, the opposite actually. She has fine eyebrow hair and it isnt groomed. So I thought it would be nice to practice on someone who didnt have nice eyebrows. And boy was I right, it was a challenge! haha

Forgot to take a before picture so I stole a picture of her on her facebook profile LOL with very little makeup on. Michie is naturally pretty and wears very little makeup so I thought it would be fun to put makeup on her and fix her brows. Our topic for the day (Prime/No Makeup Look) was perfect for her too since I cant imagine her going through all the trouble of having any more than 2 colors of eyeshadows to blend herself haha.

it to look more even and to frame her face better =) Dont mind the white spots
on her cheeks I was concealing some blemishes and was too
excited to take a picture haha.



In class we are taught step by step. Here she is with just half of the face done.
We were given 15 minutes to do the other side of the face and then we
were evaluated again (yes, 2 evaluations in one meeting!)







All done! I love how the prime look turned out on her, very simple, pretty and polished.

class to have our models wear. They were going to be photographed
by students from the Photography class.

- Stila Kajal eyeliner in onyx for the upper lashline (not a good idea to use on someone with small eyes - kept smudging on the lower waterline and undereye area)

Im baccck! + Back to (Makeup) School

GAHH! Finally have internet connection at our new house. More than a month without internet is seriously nuts. I dont know how people survive without internet haha. Im finally backkk! wee!

Anyhoo, as some of you may know, I enrolled myself in an Artistic Makeup Course at LaSalle College International (LCI) last December. I had attended one class last year and then decided to continue the course with the next batch. Classes finally started last week! There are more of us in this batch than the last, but its quite an interesting mix of characters =) Last Saturday, after our class we all headed to Glorietta to have lunch and proceeded to M.A.C. and swarmed the counter haha. It was a frenzy; I think we might have panicked the MUA’s there for a bit haha. We also went to the Beauty Section of SM and Landmark to get the things we’ll need for Saturday. I honestly can’t wait for Saturday! We’ll be learning and doing the prime look and going to a Master class?/M.A.C. Workshop after. Wee!

WILD! LOL

So far, I’m very happy with LCI’s Artistic Makeup Course. Chose to go to LCI because it was the most affordable, they give an internationally accredited certificate after the course, and because of RB Chanco. RB Chanco is the instructor for this class, she worked for M.A.C as a Senior Makeup Artist for 6 years and have been freelancing as a makeup artist for about 12 years years. She recently went to New York to complete an advanced makeup course on HD makeup and airbrush.

Another thing that I like about LCI’s course is that they have certain hours allotted for apprenticeships and OJT’s. Last Tuesday, 6 of us had shifts to apprentice under RB. It was a shoot, and Caby and I got the 2^nd shift. When we arrived the makeup was already done, so we just observed, gawked and drooled over RB’s train case hahaha. We overstayed though haha. I think they had 3 layouts, we wanted to watch RB in action. So thank you to Pinky, Lai and RB for allowing us to stay for a bit longer hehe. I cannot begin to tell you how much I love RB! Haha She’s an excellent artist and teacher!

As we were leaving and saying our goodbyes and thanking people, RB asked if we wanted a picture. Haha, I totally lost my composure and scurried through my bag for my camera hahaha. I still laugh every time I think about it. Caby and I were giggling like school girls (the whole time) over the hot model LOL

While observing, I also saw firsthand how RB does the 2 colored theme. I personally go crazy with colors and can’t just pick 2 haha so I was amazed at how beautiful it turned out. Didn’t get to take a picture though, because all 4 of us were all up on the models face already haha. I also remembered that I needed to put a mark on my brushes when I saw RB’s brushes. So me and Caby passed by Landmark to get a few more stuff we were lacking and to get nail polishes to mark our brushes. Always indecisive, I got 2 haha. I used Caronia Goddess (Frosted green shade) on some of my brushes but changed my mind and used Caronia (No name – purple, pink, lavender shade) on the Dashe Brushes I’m going to use for the class. I wanted to put a mark on my brushes so I can easily identify which ones are mine, since I chose a working area beside 2 classmates who are also using the same brush set and to easily spot my brushes if someone steals it. I seriously hope no one has the case of itchy hands, but you never know so it’s best to be sure.

I’m so excited that I have my train case all ready and packed for Saturday and its only Tuesday! Hahaha. I wiped the material inside the train case and tried to bring only the things I will need so I can make it all fit and keep all my makeup inside the case and lock it. Haha I’m being such a freak, but id die if I lose anything.

You’ll need a bobby pin, a plastic container’s lid and a Nail polish. Pour some nail polish on the plastic lid, use the bobby pin to make sure the polish is evenly spread out and dip the tip of your brush.

I was done with 30 brushes in less than 10 minutes! I don’t know what I was thinking, when I tried painting on the brush haha it was a hassle and I just made a mess.

Some of my personal brushes with Caronia’s Goddess as marking. Still trying to decide if im going to keep the frosted green color or just use the lavender/pink polish for all my brushes. EDIT: I changed them all to the pink/lavander shade haha

I keep saying it, but I honestly can’t wait for Saturday! I’ll keep everyone updated on how the classes go. Oh and they’re now offering Artistic Makeup 2 at LCI – Manila. The course will focus on airbrush, high definition and Master’s Technique Modular under RB Chanco. The classes will start on February 2, 2010 (Tuesdays 9:00 am – 4:00pm) and February 4, 2010 (Thursdays 1:00 – 7:00 pm). The class will run for 8 days.
